Well, I’m writing this post today from some personal experience…

How Do You Market Yourself When Your Business Is Just You? It sounds easy. Who better to market yourself other than you? Sometimes though, it can actually be pretty difficult.

Being thoughtful and careful is the key. You don’t want to come off as arrogant rather than confident. You don’t want people to see you as bossy rather than informative. When you’re talking about yourself and what service you can provide others, think about your target market. It doesn’t matter if you’re B2B or B2C, your target market is still extremely important in figuring out how you want to present yourself and your business.

Take me for example. My business is B2B. It’s just me. I don’t have employees or interns. I’m not representing a group of people. Just me and what services I can provide for other businesses. Because of this, I use my personal social media accounts as my business accounts also. If I talked your ear off about social media on my website and each one of my social media sites all day long, that’d get pretty pushy, and you’d quickly get annoyed with me. I try to treat my accounts like 85% / 15%. My business is B2B, but I’m ultimately trying to appeal to people, specifically the people who have their own businesses.

85% of my content consists of things other people rarely tire of- my husband being silly, my diy projects or my animals. My friends/followers know that those are the most important things to me in life based on it making up 85% of what I post. Most can relate to at least one if not all of those subjects. Now the other 15% of my content pertains to my business. Newest trends. Social media strategies. Featuring Savannah. There are many different ratios/percentages suggested out there, but 85:15 is what works for me.

  • Think of your niche and target market.
  • Feature what’s important to you & what makes you you.
  • Feature your business but do it in a tasteful, helpful way.
  • 85% relatable content
  • 15% business content

At the end of the day, you are the biggest and sometimes only advocate for yourself and your business. Make a good impression.

My first two years of high school my mother forced me to be in the chorus. I was not happy to oblige in the beginning, but after the Christmas season was over, so began St. Patrick’s Day’s songs practice- my favorite. You see, in Savannah St. Patrick’s Day is the equivalent to Christmas.

All of Savannah flocks downtown on March the 17th to celebrate the only way we know how. We bring the young and old, baskets of treats and over-flowing coolers and most importantly, our Irish pride. You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate. It’s a come one come all affair.

What does St. Patrick’s Day mean for Savannah businesses? 

Jump on board! Get your business involved with the holiday.

Decorate

Show your customers your Patty’s Day support! Trust me, they’ll appreciate it. The few that don’t, well they’re just grinches trying to steal our shamrock spirit.

Host a St. Patrick’s Day Themed Contest or Give-Away

You hosted a Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July contest/give-away (or you should of), why wouldn’t you host a St. Patrick’s Day themed one!

Get Involved

Savannah literally lights up in green for half of March. Join the community St. Pat’s activities. There’s the greening of the fountain (Forsyth Fountain), the Shamrock Run- you name it, we got it!

Prepare Yourself.
This may be a bumpy ride.

Hundreds of thousands of people pioneer to Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day. Great news for your business especially if you’re in downtown, right!? Make sure it is. Prepare for a crowd by rearranging if need be or sprucing up areas you’ve been avoiding. City-visitors and parade-goers have a tendency to get a little rowdy. Mentally prepare yourself for a situation that you may need to handle. Thinking ahead could head off a potential disaster…

Have fun! 

Don’t shove your business down people’s throats that week (or really any week for that matter). Be mindful that our entire city is preparing for St. Patrick’s Day, and for what? To celebrate the annual fun! Let your business join in. The results will play themselves out.

Why Your Savannah Georgia Business Needs Social Media

It’s no secret. The target market I’m pursuing is small businesses in Savannah Georgia. Why wouldn’t I go for the bigger fish in Savannah? After all, we have some very large, significant companies based here. When I was brainstorming for Wymberly Communications, I thought about my ideal client. I wanted to be able to relate to them on many different levels. Small businesses are my ideal clients because I admire their dedication and can-do attitude. Small businesses are typically made up of a handful of individuals who work incredibly hard in order to reach success. They are passionate about their service or product which in turn is infectious. This makes it fun and simple to market them properly. 

 

Why should you as a small business owner in Savannah Georgia use social media to market yourself? 

Savannah is quickly growing, and has been for quite sometime, into a must-visit tourist destination in the South. The city has an array of offerings from gorgeous Spanish moss to Paula Deen to the unique individual businesses that call it home. VisitSavannah has done a fantastic job of marketing our coastal home.

Now to the answer- I want you to think about the hundreds of businesses competing for attention in Savannah. Not just tourist attention. Absolutely any attention. If you could go that extra mile to help you stand out, would you do it?

Now tell me again why you aren’t utilizing social media to its full potential?

I guarantee you that your target market is on social media and can be reached.

In a city such as Savannah, all businesses have one common thread, and it is the city itself. We all have the capability to post content about Savannah because it’s a subject appreciated by many. Easy start and a fun club to be in, but how will you stand out? Will it be through phenomenal customer service? Will it be through contests or giveaways? Will you have an attention-catching campaign? When you think back on your 2013, what do you think you did exceptionally well for your business? What actions would you change?

We all have our pros and cons and ups and downs for the year. The best part of ringing in a new year is the cleaning of the slate. All the mistakes you made in 2013 are gone and past. You also learned from each of your accomplishments.

Let’s look ahead to 2014 with excitement and willingness to reach our greatest potential, as individuals and businesses.

How can you better your business? How can you reach more customers/clients? What do you want to show them or tell them about your business? Why are you special? Why should they choose you? Re-evaluate yourself and your business. Are you on the path towards the 2013 goal that you set for yourself? Did you accomplish it? Or did you fall a little off-track?

We get busy. It’s easy to forget our goals and objectives. Set new ones. Not resolutions. Goals. Goals have a better accomplishment rate than resolutions. Do it for you, your business, your employees, your customers.
